“Snowy Day Bison” I was so excited to get to be able to go into Yellowstone National Park in February one year. I had never been in the Winter, and it was to be a new experience for me.

We drove from our home near Cody, WY., all the way around to the North entrance because that is the only entrance you can drive into in the Winter, while all the other gates are closed. We stayed in the entrance town called Gardiner, on the Montana side.

We got up early while it was still dark, had our breakfast and headed out.

As we were driving down the snow roads, we came upon some Bison that were using their massive heads as a shovel to sweep the deep snow away to get to any grass underneath. It is a site to see. One of them took a break from foraging to take care of some itchy spots. He found a downed tree and started rubbing on it, the result being that he got pieces of branches stuck all over his fur. It was so fun to watch.

When he was done with that, he started walking toward me, and I was able to get this shot. Bison are a beautiful animal, and I can’t wait to go back in the Winter again.
